Jasper ("Jaz" to his friends) is good at taking naps and smoking cigarettes. In his youth, he was a fair hand at whiskey drinking. He has survived shoot-outs, lung cancer, the Clinton presidency, and a dozen south Texas summers. A devotee of Blue Bell Natural Vanilla Bean ice cream and the designs of John Moses Browning, Newton lives with his wife, Jo, in Victoria, Texas. Between naps, he is working on his next novel.
